Theme 3 From Reef to Ridge: An Ecosystem Based Approach to Biodiversity Conservation and Development in the Philippines (EB-ABCD Philippines) /project-information/theme-3.html Thu, 19 Dec 2013 12:09:58 +0000 Joomla! 1.5 - Open Source Content Management en-gb Project 7: Resource mapping (Biodiversity Information System) for effective resource management and monitoring /project-information/theme-3/13-project-7.html /project-information/theme-3/13-project-7.html Core problem: Mapping the extent of essential habitats, the threats to these areas, and their current management is important to the management and monitoring of the coastal landscape and its resources. Analyzing the presence, absence as well magnitude of the threats based on published documents, as well as interviews with key informants/stakeholders, will provide the ―status of the area being investigated. Since this type of study requires the handling of voluminous datasets, it becomes imperative to manage the data through computerized ―information systems. Information systems do not replace specialists for the synthesis of information per se, but are essential to keep track of data, make these available to a larger audience, and ensure that data will continue to be current, accessible, and retrievable. A more specific discussion of this component is presented in Annex F.

Project 8: Capacity Building in Biodiversity Conservation and Natural Resources Management /project-information/theme-3/14-project-8.html /project-information/theme-3/14-project-8.html Core problem: The Biodiversity Research Project (BRP) noted that a low human capital was found prevalent in Mt. Malindang. Although, there were several training programs, seminars, and other IEC programs provided by national and local government agencies, NGOs and religious groups, there remains a need for continuing capacity building as the management of Mt. Malindang becomes more complex. Capacity building program shall likewise address the complexities of biodiversity conservation and NRM in relation to livelihood and economic activities in the area. Thus, the problems of governance, law enforcement, livelihood, access to basic services and socio-cultural considerations shall be addressed by a comprehensive capacity building programs.
